Elephantmen
I read Elephantmen today. Well yesterday I guess. It's a comic about animal men(not just elephants although there is an elephantman called Ebony) who were engineered by a company to serve as super soldiers. From the introduction it sounds like this is a spinoff of something called Hip Flask(who's apparently a hippopotumusman). This compilation consists of twelve comics, mostly following Ebony(elephantman), Hip(hippoman), Elijah(crocodile), and Obadiah(rhino) as they try and live in a world that sees them as novelty's at best, or abominations at worse. It's too early to say for certain but Ebony and Hip seem to be "heroic" types with a dark past while Obadiah is a Kingpin like figure and Elijah is something of a brute enforcer. Elijah has received the least character development so far with Hip and Ebony getting the most screen time so to speak.

The story takes place between 2258-2260.

The first comic is super brief, sort of an introduction which shows a normal person's outlook on the elephantmen(which is the term most people seem to use for all the various humanoid animals).

The second is about a little girl who takes a liking to Ebony and a mother who...doesn't. You get to see part of his past in this issue too.

The third is a battle between Hip and Elijah.

The fourth is an interview with Elijah on a space station.

The fifth a battle between Ebony and some hunters.

The sixth covers a taxi driver coming to Hip's aid after his fight with Elijah in the third.

The seventh has Ebony showing that same taxi driver some of the horrible things that were done to them when she gets curious. He also explains how the UN's only interest in helping them is to make the UN look generous and caring and how all of mankind will be happy when the last of his kind dies.

The eight takes a look at everyone's past shortly after the UN rescued them.

The ninth covers Obidiah and Sahara, a human he's marrying.

The tenth looks at Sahara's past and how she was used as a breeding stud against her will.

The rest has Hip telling Savannah(the little girl who befriended Ebony) a story about a pirate with a heart of stone and how he gained and lost paradise.

And the epilogue has Obidiah and Elijah planning something.

All in all I really enjoyed it and I intend to pick up the next compilation if I can find it.
